About us

Welcome to Shibui! 

We are a small family-run business based in Edinburgh, led by myself, John, and my wife, Claire, alongside our smashing wee team of Simona, Sarah, Marc, Lindsay, and Annabel.

Having grown up in Yorkshire and the North of England, I was brought up with a strong brew pretty much from birth and that is where I got my passion for tea. I developed a love for strong, flavourful brews and so I made sure our Breakfast tea is full of flavour too and can handle milk. Yep, I’m one of those who enjoys milk in my tea but here at Shibui we don’t judge. That is the beauty of tea - you can enjoy it however you like.

We work hard to help the environment as much as we can and are proud to say that we are members of 1% for the Planet and give back 1% of our sales to environmental charities. Our products are made from materials which can be either composted or recycled. While we’re not perfect, we are committed to improving and are therefore constantly evolving.

What does Shibui mean?

We wanted a name that meant something to us which was also different and would be easy to remember.

Shibui is a Japanese word with a few meanings. One meaning is a way of describing something which appears simple but has a complex nature. We think that this sums up tea perfectly. Tea is just tea, right? Well, to most maybe, but look into it and there is a lot more to it than that.

Our Teas

We take pride in our diverse and wide-range of teas, and we hope you find something you love among them. From timeless classics like Earl Grey and Breakfast teas to more adventurous blends you might not have tried yet. Shibui has over 100 different teas and collections for you to choose from, we’re always exploring new flavours.

Take our Chocolate & Ginger herbal blend for instance. We desired both a ginger tea and a chocolate tea in a range, which led us to the idea of this unique blend. It is now one of our best sellers and has earned many Great Taste Awards. If you’re curious about the combination, give it a try!
