  • Shibui is a Japanese word which has no direct translation into English. It is a way of describing something which appears simple but has actually an underlying complex nature. We feel that this sums up our perception of tea perfectly. Tea is just tea, surely? Ah – but look into it in a bit more detail and it’s a lot more complicated than that.

Our tea pyramids are made from cornstarch and are biodegradable. They are heat sealed and contain no glue.

Our tea pyramids are crafted from corn-derived PLA and compost in a commercial composting facility. Please check to make sure facilities are available in your area. The string and tag are also compostable and do not need to be removed before discarding.

No, only the teas that actually have Organic in their name are organic.  Our organic teas have been certified as organic in the UK by the Soil Association.

It varies per tea per typically approximately 1½ to 2½ years.

Each pyramid contains between 1.5 and 3.5 grams – depending on the blend.

Tea should be stored in a dry and cool place. Tea doesn't last too well if it's damp! Our loose tea comes packaged in either a tube or a resealable pouch. Both of which are ideal for storing loose tea.

As a rule of thumb - assuming 2.5g / teaspoon is used – you can expect to get around 30-40 cups from 100g bag. This does not make allowance for the fact that many teas can be infused multiple times.

Our decaf teas use a CO2 based process to remove the caffeine. This is considered the natural process of decaffeinating teas and it leaves no chemical residues nor does it impact on the flavour of the tea.

Of course. We do aim to pack and ship your order quickly so if you would like to change or cancel the order then please contact us as soon as possible. Our phone number is 0131 448 1598 or by replying to your confirmation email. If you leave it a day to contact us then it may be too late.

It depends on the tea and how strong you like it. It's good to experiment to find out how you like it best. As a guide - please check our brewing tips page.

If you don't have a fancy kettle which heats the water to different temperatures then a tip to for brewing green & white teas is to put the boiling water into the teapot or mug first and then add the tea. It will have cooled down a bit just by touching the cold teapot. That's what I do anyway...
